You Are So Right … on Time

A friend of mine’s been working on a book for the past 12 years. I spoke to her about it recently and she told me it’s almost finished.

She said, “I know it’s taken longer than I or anyone thought, but you know what, I think it’s right on time?” She also said, “I’m ready for this to be out now and I don’t think I was before.”

And it struck me. What a wonderfully refreshing and liberating attitude.

How easy is it to think you’re late or, behind schedule, when perhaps everything is happening according to plan?

I took a moment to reflect on my own projects. And I realized that while I understand, intellectually, it’s the nature of the mind to tell me I’m not good enough – that I should be achieving more –  I forget often enough too and I start believing my mind.

And sure enough there were a number of areas where I felt badly about not being as far along as I’d envisioned.

But when I started to apply her theory and tried thinking maybe things were progressing perfectly, I noticed a difference.

I felt more enthusiastic about the projects, for a start. Probably because I was less weighted down with feelings of inadequacy.

This is a simple shift in thinking. But powerful too.

Is there anything in your life that you think you’re running late in? That you wish you’d already completed?

Now consider this – what if the timing is absolutely perfect?

Because you know what – chances are, it is!
